The Home Wine Maker

Another problem to solve

Because we know that there are people making wine in a small production environment, we have decided to focus some of our resources to providing an affordable solution to making great wine.  We felt that the home winemaker either paid in excess of $400 for a great barrel, or much less for an oak barrel that did not contribute positive attributes to their wine, oak alternatives that overpowered their wine or carboys that did nothing in providing oxygenation and oak flavoring.  It just didn't seem right that after all the hard work in making wine, the most critical element in making good wine, aging it properly, is compromissed.

ReCoop's Solution...a compromise in cost but not quality

Our solution...to make small barrel from ReCooped material.  These barrels are made from 100% French or American ReCooped barrels, you choose. Once we ReCoop the barrel, the staves are re-sized and the heads re-made to fit the particular barrel you want us to raise.

As you have read, ReCoop’s proprietary process starts with a neutral barrel. We remove up to ¼ inch of the stave and head material to get down to virgin wood. Our patented technology removes the wood "with the grain" never compromising the benefits afforded by the oak. Once all the neutral oak material is removed, the barrels are cured in a  controlled environment to ensure wood moisture content to be less than 13% and complete volatilization of all ethanol and wine essence occurs. Next, we toast and raise the barrels.  Our barrels are oak fire toasted for either a Medium minus, Medium, Medium plus or Heavy toast.  You tell us what you would like.Prior to shipment our barrels receive a thorough test and complete inspection to make sure there are no leaks or defects.
