Barrel Care
Handle the barrel carefully so not to
displace staves. Barrels should be stored off
the ground in a temperature and if
possible humidity controlled cellar away
from direct sunlight.
We recommend that you completely fill
the barrel with warm water for 24 to 48
hours. This should swell the barrel and
allow the barrel enough time to be
hydrated. Try to use chlorine free, clean,
potable water when hydrating.
Upon draining the barrel, it must be filled
with wine immediately or let the barrel
drain thoroughly then gas or sulphur stick
to prevent any unfavorable biological
characteristics. We recommend hydrating
every six to eight weeks.
